The upgrade of the criminal files and workflow management system “Electronic Criminal File Archive” is just a few manual tests away.

The Bavarian State Police is one of the largest police departments in Germany. In the context of a pilot phase, the “Electronic Criminal File Archive” was introduced as a criminal file management system at the police headquarters in Munich and at the Criminal Investigation Bureau in Fürstenfeldbruck – the North Upper Bavarian police headquarters. The criminal file management system is based on individual parts of the Fabasoft eGov-Suite. Access is granted and regulated through a comprehensive authorization system that must work reliably and faultlessly under all conditions.

Upgrades to new product versions and base infrastructures confront those working with the software with new challenges. To ensure smooth transition and operation following an upgrade, an extensive range of time consuming manual tests have to be conducted.

The decision was therefore made to use Fabasoft app.test alongside the manual testing for the automated quality control (automated testing). These automated tests can be run on different operating systems and infrastructures as required. All results are summarized in clearly structured reports complete with screenshots and detailed information for each detected problem.

Consequently, the Bavarian State Police can reduce the time and effort spent on quality control in addition to ensuring that all functionalities are available on all applicable browsers and operating systems. At present, approximately 3,000 police employees use the “Electronic Criminal File Archive”. There are plans for a Bavaria-wide rollout.
