VIP visits Fabasoft at CeBIT 07. In the course of his trip to the world's largest computer trade fair in Hannover, Infrastructure Minister Werner Faymann visited the stand of the software manufacturer in the Public Sector Park. In the discussion with Fabasoft board member Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Fallmann the Minister spoke about Austria's international and exemplary function in e-Government and the software manufacturer's fundamental role in connection with it. The e-Government products of Fabasoft AG, located in Linz, are a huge export success and besides Germany can also be found in use in Switzerland, Great Britain and Slovakia.

According to a Capgemini study published in 2006, Austria has a leading position in e-Government throughout Europe. This is due to extensive online services for citizens and companies, plus the seamless media workflow processing in the public administration sector through the electronic file (ELAK). Over 9,000 users in all Austrian Federal Ministries work with the ELAK, based on the electronic workflow management software Fabasoft eGov-Suite.

The political will, clear objectives and defined strategies in achieving these goals, appropriate legislative framework conditions and across-the-board implementation of e-Government right throughout Austria are the reasons behind this success. Minister Faymann made it quite clear that e-Government is a significant factor for him, too. Across-the-board e-Government – as in Austria – is also an objective for other countries. Ján Počiatek, Finance Minister in Slovakia, stated in an interview that the development of e-Government is a key issue in Slovakia. Austria is an exemplary country for Počiatek.

With the E-Government Academy Austria has launched a training concept that covers education offers for people working at all levels in administration. After the successful start-up in Austria in autumn, this Austrian initiative is due to be implemented in south east Europe as well in the near future.

On its main stand D68 in Hall 9 in the Public Sector Park Fabasoft is demonstrating groundbreaking projects for the whole of Europe, with ELDORA in the Free State of Bavaria and DOWEBA at the Federal Railway Authority, plus the current version 7 of the workflow management software Fabasoft eGov-Suite. In accordance with the Strategy 100 Fabasoft eGov-Suite is available for both the Microsoft Windows and Linux environments.
